Infrared Cameras

An infrared camera is able to see in the dark by providing its own light source. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) surround the camera lens and automatically turn on when the environment gets dark.

Infrared cameras will provide a normal color picture during daytime or when the area is well lit. When the built-in sensor detects darkness, it will turn on the LEDs and provide infrared illumination. You will then see in black and white. Clarity and distance will be dictated by the size of lens, quality and quantity of infrared LEDs.

A 940nm led will be virtually invisible to the human eye even in pitch black darkness. Whereas an 850nm led will have a slightly reddish or pinkish glow in the dark. You will have to stare directly straight into an 850nm camera to see this very slight glow.

We offer 56 and a 104 LED 940nm cameras that are near invisible in pitch darkness. Many are sold to sleep clinics due to the fact that patients are not distracted by any glow. They are also used in warehouses, storerooms, nursing homes, and other places that require higher level of stealth surveillance.

A 940nm led emits less usable light than an 850nm led. This is why we must have so many LED's in this type of camera. The nanometer rating (nm) and manufacturer of the led will determine just how noticeable the leds will be in the dark and how much light will actually be produced.

We have infrared led camera lenses ranging from 3.6mm which gives an extremely wide field of view all the way up to 35mm which only has a 12.4 degree field of view (FOV).

Below is our rating on Infrared cameras to assist you with your selection. 1 being the best!

1. 28 LED, 550 lines, varifocal, 850nm: This camera provides the most light and is the most rugged, Excellent daytime color picture. Use 24 volts AC or 12 volts DC for power. Ideal when your cable lengths are in excess of 500 ft for power and video. The varifocal feature allow you to set the FOV exactly where you need it up to 22mm. Extremely rugged and weatherproof.

2. 48 LED, 580 lines, 850nm: This camera puts out as much light as the 28 led varifocal, excellent daytime color picture. 12 volts DC only. Fixed lenses only, 4mm, 8mm, 12mm, 25mm and 35mm. No adjustments or settings. Extremely rugged and weatherproof.

3. 14 LED, 580 and 480 lines. 850nm: Great nighttime viewing up to 50 feet. Excellent daytime color picture. Works well for viewing front or back doors, backyards, driveways. 12 volts DC, only available in 3.6 and 6mm lenses. Extremely rugged and weatherproof.

4.20 LED, 480 line, Outdoor with audio: If you must have built in audio in an outdoor camera this is your only choice, 3.6mm lens only. 5 to 10 ft. listening range. Great daytime color picture. Very rugged and weatherproof.

5. 14 LED, 420 line, 850nm: Economically priced, good color picture, good nighttime viewing, 3.6mm only.

6. 56 and 104 LED, 400 lines, 940nm: Virtually invisible LEDS, Good color picture, good nighttime viewing. Designed more for indoor use but can be used outdoors. Light weatherproof. Locate under soffit or eave so as not to be buried in snow or have rain drench camera.

Infrared, Day/night, IR cameras. These are all the same terminology. We carry a wide selection of day/night infrared cameras. Many of these also come in a wireless version. Some are even in an outdoor wireless version. You can save money by simply purchasing a transmitter and receiver and build your own wireless camera. It isn't hard to convert one of these cameras into a wireless. Select between 2.97mm to 25mm lens. Color during daytime and automatically switch to black and white at night. Economy infrared cameras have black and white all the time and infrared LEDs only turn on in the dark.
